with him but I could see his heart wasn't in it and I didn't want him
"dating" just cause the other kids were. I paid him off. Yup. Cash. I
told him it was all his if he would break up with the girl and not
date anyone else until middle school was over. I thought it was
reasonable. I still think so. But then he met this other girl. Someone
he grew a friendship with. Someone who had things in common with him.
Last night he asked me if it would be okay if he asked her to be his
girlfriend. The respect he showed by asking first made me so proud of
him. While he absolutely has to make his own choices in life, I think
asking first showed a little maturity and courage. And as a mom, I
sure appreciated having my input valued. Well, in a situation like
that, what's a mom to say? He's been on cloud 9 ever since and it was
so fun to see him so happy. As he left for school this morning, I told
him to have fun smiling all day. I sure remember the twitter-pated
feeling of my own first love. How could you ever forget :)
For those of you who are panicking right now (Mom ;) ) He's still not
allowed to formally go out on a date. Maybe he'll invite her over
though. Something like that. Time will tell.

I think this is just so cute! And precious :) Compared to my brothers, Ty is a SAINT for handling it this way. (don't tell them I said that) However I would expect nothing less from Ty. He's amazing. He's a direct reflection of how awesome of a mom you are!!!!!!!
Keep us updated on 'the visit' if it happens. :)
initial reaction: AUGHHHH!!!!!!!
level-headed reaction: you're right; that IS sweet.
... but i should probably meet this girl.
OMG this is adorable, Jolene!
Wow, my heart leaps with joy and fear! I think that Ty did an awesome job of showing his courage. I agree with you, Jo, 100%. I would also like to be updated on 'the visit' if it happens.
Love is so powerful!
You know me, Jo...I told Ty last night that "love" is a strong word. It was nice to be able to talk with him so candidly about her though. I love that boy!

I so enjoyed reading this. Thank you for sharing. I often wonder how this will go in our own house. This gives me hope and warms my heart.
