zoo poetry

The kids had to write a report on an African animal so I wrote them a little poem to go with it. So I present to you, for your amusement - a sampling of my poetic skills:

The Giraffe King

If I were a giraffe on the Savanna

I'd wear a crown on my head.

I'd make all the lions eat manna

So they'd never eat me instead.

I'd use my very long neck

To reach the highest of leaves.

And with my buddies I'd trek

Across the Savanna with ease.

The Lazy Lemur
There once was a lemur named Oscar
Who lived in the trees of Madagascar.
He watched his true love
Fighting enemies above
And yawned while wishing she'd move faster.
(Did you know that the female lemurs are the ones who do the territorial fighting??? You do now!)

The Nile Crocodile
What creature is so vile
As the croc of the Nile.

He sneaks through the rivers
While feasting on livers.

The zebras and antelopes
Run for the hilly slopes

To escape the huge jaws
And the wicked, sharp claws

Of the creature so vile,
The Nile Crocodile.

Wow!! I am super impressed. As I stood and listened to Amber recite (by memory) the Oscar the Lemur poem; I was in awe!! She nailed it perfectly and quite swiftly. I have a feeling she will be the next poet "who knows IT." I can see her now.......
