too many gadgets

Oh boy - where to start.
Cold today, huh. We were gone most of the day and the woodstove, well, ran out of wood. The house was chilly cold by the time we got home so FarmBoy turned the regular furnace on while the other got up to speed/heat. I was working on a work project down in the basement and started feeling... woozy. Could be from all the junk I've eaten today. Could be cause I'm wiped out. Could be lots of things. OH NO! What if it's carbon monoxide!! AHH!

Run upstairs and grab the detector I had plugged in the living room and bring it down here and plug it in. The light begins flashing. Oh oh! What does this mean?!?! I don't see anything on the box to test it and I know this thing has been here awhile - maybe it's just old. Okay - I know there's another somewhere - oh yeah - right there. Press the test button. Nothing. Shoot, okay, new batteries - I can handle that. Switch them out - run the test. Nothing happens after the test. But the other thing is still flashing!?!

Decide I better wait a little bit and make sure it's not going to sound the alarm (in the meantime - I made sure the furnace was turned back off and the woodstove back on). waiting... waiting... waiting... really tired... headache getting worse... go and see if the old one is still flashing. Sure is. I better do some googling to see how to interpret the flashing - if I should worry or not. Type in the model number in the search box and wait.

Pull up the first logical page that fits and this is what I read:
"RIDDEX® is an electronic pest control option that I feel truly performs as advertised. The device comes in two sizes: The Model PAC-1C for apartments and small offices and the L1112 for homes with up to two-thousand feet of living space. "

Unfreakingbelievable. I was getting all worked up cause I plugged in a mouse deterrent. Tomorrow, when I feel more awake, I'm going to grab a Sharpie and put my own label on this "old CO detector." In the meantime - at least I can go to sleep in peace.

LMBO!!! OH BEANIE! You are the best, you know that right? Carbon Monoxide detectors usually just make the most loud and horrible high-pitched noise EVER when it detects carbon monoxide. I used to have one in my bedroom when I lived with my dad because i was above the garage. The first night I plugged it in - IT WENT OFF AT ABOUT 3AM! Oh my gosh! It was the loudest, most high-pitched alarm I had ever heard!

After the initial panic, found out it was defective - nice.

Oh my! Talk about unnecessary excitement! I surely hope you're feeling better now, but at least we know it isn't Carbon Monoxide!
