The weekend before last I had my first taste of French Onion Soup. I've been very leary of this soup. I like onions, at least raw ones, but the idea of a soup based on onions?!? It was amazing. I still need to call UncleRoss and get that recipe. Last Saturday when we had our Adult Night Out Angie ordered some and I got to try it again. I'm in love. I've been craving it ever since then. I wrote out my grocery list today and included everything needed to make the "perfect" French Onion Soup - but I couldn't wait. I had to make it for tonight. So I did. Maybe the broth wasn't the best. Maybe the onions weren't the perfect choice. But it was SO darn good. And now here I am, 6 hours later and fighting myself to not go into the fridge to grab the leftovers.
I just want to say THANKS to the following people for encouraging me to try things that make me raise an eyebrow :)

woot! yay for good food!!! does that mean the recipe worked??
it did. jeremy didn't care for the swiss cheese version that i did. he also thought it wasn't quite sweet enough... I basically used the recipe in my cookbook but it was the same thing, more or less, that you told me.
anyone else out there with a recipe that they love for it?
